We come across this situation on a daily basis and quite often customers worry about this type of line and think it is a manufacturing fault or the fitter has put a join in the carpet where it was not necessary to do so. To help put people's mind at ease we have shown the above photo and the video below to help explain. There are a number of reasons that you may find a line in your new carpet and some are more problematic than others but the most common one is what is known as a "pole mark". This is a line across the width of the carpet and the above picture is a perfect example. It will be approximately 12 to 18 inches from the end of the carpet length. The line is caused by the leading edge of the carpet digging into the pile of the carpet when it is rolled onto the cardboard pole/tube and this causes pressure on the pile of the carpet and temporarily squashes it down. This action creates a virtually straight line across the width of the carpet. It can look quite horrendous - especially when you consider you have just spent loads of hard earned money on what you were expecting to be a perfect carpet! The key thing to remember is this line is only temporary. It is not a manufacturing fault or a bad fitting job! This line will fade over a number of weeks and disappear completely. It will get better with use of the carpet, vacuuming, etc. You could argue that the manufacturers or suppliers should add another 12 to 18 inches of carpet onto each order so this line can be cut out. Sadly this is not practical as the cost implication would not be feasible when considered against the temporary nature of the line. In the past different companies have tried to find solutions including adding a feeder paper at the start of the pole to protect the carpet from the leading edge, unfortunately the success of this is very limited and actually creates a larger but flatter area of marking. In conclusion, these pole marks are something we have to live with but fortunately they are temporary and will come out in time. We have been proud to stock Rhinofloor since the early 1980's but have felt the brand had lost its way in the last few years. However whilst this new update for 2020 may have come at the height of Covid-19 we are happy to say the Rhino name is back to its best! The new ranges include right upto date designs including Rhino Parquet which is a high quality herringbone effect collection. They have also included Rhinotex which joins the ever growing band of vinyl flooring with a felt backing that not only insulates and helps deaden sound but also covers a number of sub-floor imperfections. The other really exciting thig is the price - combined with our always super competitive prices and the new pricing structure from Rhinofloor you will be guaranteed a bargain! Visit instore today at Burts of Darlington on Eastmount Road.
